Is it possible to turn my widget Categ. or links into pages?
-
I came across someone’s wordpress blog and the blog had widgets links that when you clicked on the link it went to an entirely seperate page. If you look at my http://meseemarvel.wordpress.com/ I want to turn my Category widgets into seperate pages. I hope I described what I’m trying to say accurately. I’m new at this. JS
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Does this entry help you?

I’m not clear on what you are asking. You don’t have a category widget but only a tag cloud. Are you asking how to put your separate blogroll-category links onto separate pages?
If so, it is much easier than the poster wanted to do in the link timethief sited. This code is for your links to your “unbelievable” blogroll-category links:

So just open your source code, find the unordered list for the link category you want, copy all the li items, then paste them into a new page.
You will have to repeat the process whenever you add or delete a link.
Also, you will need to use a page widget so your readers will be able to find the pages you create via this method. -
I’m not sure that is what you are asking, but that will certainly clear your sidebar and make everything more readable.
If it’s not, please clarify. Re-word your question or provide a link to the blog you are referring to? -
I think that is what I’m trying to do. But, let me try to explain a little better. Lets say I go to me blog http://meseemarvel.wordpress.com/ and I go to “Funny Websites / Videos”.
I then click on “Coach Hines”. When I do this I want to see a seperate page come up with ALL the videos on Coach Hines ( about 40 videos). This is what I saw on someone’s blog. Also, I am new to WordPress and am just learning the terminology you experts know already. There are things I don’t understand. For example, I don’t understand some statements, like “…If so, it is much easier than the poster wanted to do in the link timethief sited.” I don’t know what “poster” means or “timethief.” I don’t know anything about Visual Editor or HTML. Can I learn to do this or will I have trouble with WordPress? Keep in mind, I am a type that will stick with something until I learn it.

Sorry, I should have looked at http://karenleefield.wordpress.com blog but after doing so, yes, that looks like what I wish to do.

“Poster” means one who posts (= writes something) here.
“Timethief” is the username of one of the experienced bloggers volunteering advice here (like your “meseemarvel” – see her username next to her pic, second post in this thread.
“Visual” and “HTML” are the two modes of the post or page editor: visual is where you see approximately what you get in the post, HTML is where you see the code for it.
As for what you’re looking for (using your videos example):
You need to go to Pages > Add New and create a page titled “Funny Websites / Videos”.
Then create a page titled “Coach Hines”, select “Funny Websites / Videos” as its parent (in the Attributes module of the page editor), and insert the relevant videos in it – see here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
Same thing for the rest of the pages you’re thinking of.
Then go to Appearance>Widgets and activate the Pages widget (by dragging it from Available to Sidebar), so that your sidebar will display links to the pages you have created (tabs to the child pages will show up below their parent, indented).
Then go to Links>Edit and delete the links to those videos as well as the relevant link categories.
Optional: edit each parent page afterwards, to write links to its child pages.

(All that assuming I have understood correctly – because what you’re describing with your example is not similar to Karen’s.)

O.K. I am almost there thanks to you. You put in elementary terms for me and I thank for that because I understand you. Once I went to Appearence>Widgets, I tried to drag PAGES up to the Widgets spot but it wouldn’t let me. So, I clicked the ADD button and POP-UP came up ( WIDGET PAGES ) asking for a TITLE, SORT BY, EXCLUDE, etc. What do I type in?
-
I figured it out. However, now I’m stuck on your last statement about Links>Edit. I am on the Links edit page now. Is it the Link Relationship (XFN) box at the bottom that I am to fill out? because that’s the only Child / Parent words I see.
-
Sorry I keep sending notes but I thought about a possible problem. i thought maybe my Theme was giving me problems so I went and chose a different Theme and then the Pages that you told me how to insert were there. They don’t show up in the Theme that I had been using. I’m not too happy about that because I liked the black background.
-
You’ve mixed up some things.
1. Pages > Edit – or Pages > Add New takes you to the page editor. That’s where you get the parent option for pages.
2. At the moment you’ve got those videos as links. After you create pages for them (if that’s what you want to do), the links will be redundant: you go to Links > Edit and delete the links.
3. I see you have reverted to Black-Letterhead. What was the other theme you switched to? Some themes display parent page tabs in the header, others don’t. If you publish child pages, you need the Pages widget anyway, no matter what the theme. If you switch from one theme to another, you may need to activate the widgets again.

I figured that out about Pages as well as Themes. So I’ve got that down. Once again to try to explain better. I want to Go to my Category “My Live Music” and, say, for example, click on Radiohead. I want it to go to a seperate page with ALL Radiohead videos. But, I believe I can only do this if I POST all the Radiohead videos. Otherwise they won’t show. Is that correct?
