Is it possible to use columns in a WordPress page without resorting to HTML

My site sponsor has said that he would like to be able to put page text / data into columns when he is editing pages – he would also like to be able to do so without recourse to HTML (-which he doesn’t like !).

He has 2 particular uses for which he wants this:

    • adding rows of two-column content consisting of a member-photo in one and a text profile in the other
    • two or three columns containing links to uploaded documents – one particular page is likely to have 30+ uploads

Short of using plugins – which are only available to self-hosted WordPress.org sites – is there a way he can achieve this in a WYSIWYG fashion ? Or are there, say, shortcodes I can trial that I might embed in the page for him to use ? I am currently using the free plan but will upgrade to Premium if it might help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,
I think the fastest way to do it is through HTML tables. I know you´d prefer not to but this link explains it in a very easy way:

Thanks, Carla: I’ve tried the simple DIV suggetion, and it does do what I think our web editor wants, and isn’t too ‘technical’: I shall have to encourage him to be prepared to play with HTML .. or at least the DIV tag !
