Is it safe to make your blog into a example.com?
-
My parents don’t think its safe because they watch the news daily and say that lots of bad stuff happen with websites, so I was wondering is it safe? and is it worth it? Any answers can go to my email [email removed – Mark]
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is certainly NOT safe is to put your e-mail out there for anyone to see, especially spammers who can now have a field day, although Gmail will probably take care of that.
And tell your parents that technically speaking your blog is already a website, it doesn’t become a website only after having its own domain.

You mean buying a domain? Tell your parents to go where there is a privacy feature. It costs a bit more but your name and address will be kept off public record if you pay for the added protection and security. If not, the credit card holder’s name and address will be on public record which is easily viewed.
I know this one woman who had her real name and address put on a forum. They also went to Google and got a picture of the outside of her home all by running her address. The forum never took it down. I read on her blog actually this week that they finally took it all down. This all started months ago. So yes it can be dangerous.
I would suggest also getting a separate email account for all the domain business so if anyone hacks into your regular email account, they won’t see all the emails from the domain registry and billing information. Log into the new email account at least once a month to keep it active so it won’t be deleted.
