Is live support ever not closed?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
They are open at Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance!
-
Then why does the tab in the lower right corner of the screen consistently read, “live support is currently closed”?
When I click on it simply links me back to the forum to search for published answers.
-
They are closed on weekends, please try again during the times mentioned in my previous reply.
Thank you.
-
Dear (Misguided) Happiness Engineer, I have yet to find any time; weekday, weekend, day or night that live support isn’t closed. Generally I like the product, but the inability to get a simple question answered by a human in anything resembling “real time” is unnecessarily stressful. Billing seems to work fine, but seek a simple answer and the reference to forums and FAQ’s is mind-numbing.
Can I get a person up in here some f*@king where?!?! -
We appreciate the feedback. In your particular case, we are testing offering live support to new users. Typically, we only offer it to users who have purchased our Business bundle. You may be seeing the live chat support closed more than either you or us would like as a result of us working to determine what level of resources are needed to suitably respond to users without overwhelming the staff.
Thank you for sharing your frustration. If there is anything I can help you with, please do let me know.
-
Thank you for replying. And yes, I am frustrated. No tutorials appear to match your current user interface, even those posted August 2013. And I am up to “get flashy” on yours but it does not seem helpful yet.
All I am trying to do is upload the files for the site I created so they can be displayed using my domain. I know it must be something idio-simplex, but I can’t find it. I exported an xml file from WP, and have iPower’s ftp open, they are who recommended WP, and I can see in the ftp where the WP default site files are posted, but I know how to replace the default files with my own. I know it has to be simpler than what I am attempting.
Ps: A word of advice – if you don’t have service for upgraded accounts, then don’t keep popping up a tab with “live support is currently closed”. According to your reply, it’s always closed to upgraded users!
-
You should at least have a paid support service if you can’t support to include one in the upgrade cost. I have been at this for days.
-
I may have misspoke regarding live support. The tab doesn’t appear to users who aren’t offered it. As a week-old user, you’re included as part of a test for live support for new users, although the couple of folks who are working it as part of the test seem to be missing you when you’ve seen it.
I’ve alerted them to how frustrating it is, so they’re working to remove it completely in cases like your’s when there is not someone available. Our Business Bundle does have live support from 9a-5p M-F and is fully staffed (not part of a test group).
In either event, let’s move forward to resolve your issue.
As a small bit of background, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different things. WordPress.com is our fully-hosted solution that we handle all technical aspects while placing some limitations to keep everything running smoothly. WordPress.org is the self-hosted version that you use with the hosting solution of your choice and broader options on use. Those details are broken down in more detail here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
It currently appears that both shoprnet.com and kimcooper.shoprnet.com are using WordPress.org self-hosted installations.
Are you wanting to move those sites over to WordPress.com? If not, support for WordPress.org is located at http://wordpress.org/support/
Depending on which files you’re trying to upload, you may need to use the WordPress interface instead of FTP. For example, pictures and other media can be installed using the Media tab of the dashboard.
I appreciate your patience.

Bless you kraftbj, whoever you are.
If you can see posoinfo.wordpress.com then you can see the site I built on WP.com. It is still crude, but layout is not the problem. What do I need to do to get posoinfo… to appear at kimcooper.shoprnet.com?
-
Yo krafty,
Once we figure this out will I be able to upgrade to the business bundle and get credit for the $99? My ultimate objective is more ambitious than a simple website. I just have to first determine if this is the right place to do what I need done.
-
Howdy again,
With the business bundle, there is code to discount bundles when users have aspects of the bundle already. If it tries to charge you full-price when you try to upgrade, either go ahead and pay the full amount, let me know and I’ll refund the difference, or let me know first and I’ll credit your account the difference.
You’ve done everything right at WordPress.com for the domain to work. Now, you’ll need to do one of two things:
- If you want to link both shoprnet.com and kimcooper.shoprnet.com to WordPress.com, you’ll need to change the nameservers associated with your domain to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com and ns3.wordpress.com. We have directions for some registrars listed here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#how-to-change-your-name-servers as well as a template letter you can send to the support department of registrar if they’re not listed.
- If you only need to add kimcooper.shoprnet.com, then you’ll need to add a CNAME DNS entry with your registrar per these instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/
It’s a bit technical, but it only needs to be done once. Cheers!

G’Morning Krafty,
You’ve earned the right to call me by my nom de guerre – Rantz.
iPower has changed the nameservers to ns.1.wordpress, ns.2…, ns.3… It takes about 24 hours to be updated.
Meanwhile credit me and let’s bump up to the Business Bundle. That should include live support so I can complete my plans w/o being a pain in your a… Please notify me when you’re done.
You see, I’m really not such a curmudgeon when I get what I need. A little service goes a long way. Thnx.
-
Thanks, Rantz.
Go ahead to your checkout page: https://posoinfo.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?view=purchase
You’ll see the Business Bundle for $199 (instead of the usual $299).
Checking, for me, it looks like both your domains are pointing to your site as expected. It can still take some time for everyone to see that, but for what it’s worth, it is going in the right direction!
Glad that I was able to help. Cheers!

$299 a year is the typical price for the Business Bundle. With the already purchased Premium Bundle, we’re taking $100 off already before charging you for the $199.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s included in each bundle so you can see the difference between Premium and Business: http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/

Yes, the Business Bundle includes one domain (either newly registered or mapping an existing domain).
Since this will be superseding your Premium Bundle, one of your mapped domains will switch over the Business Bundle and the second one will be an additional add-on (that you already have purchased).
