Is my custom header too big?

Hi gang. I have been using Modularity Lite. A few minutes ago I changed to the lite theme instead of dark and so far I like it better. The part I am looking at now is the custom header and slideshow. I really like the slideshow feature, but am wondering if I am putting off readers with the fact that you have to scroll way down to get past the custom header and slideshow to get any content.
Thoughts??

Yes, is my answer. I don’t like huge headers. I come to read content and I don’t like scrolling by the same huge header every time I come to a blog to read content.

Agree with timethief. You cannot even see the latest post without scrolling down.
The slideshow is a more unusual and more interesting feature than the header image. And the header image is partly redundant, as the blog title also shows up up top. So in my opinion you could retain the slideshow and disable the header image. You can create a similar banner and use it in the sidebar instead (above the other widgets).

I like the ideas. Thanks. I will disable the custom header for now. What I was wondering also is can I eliminate the blog title at the top and move a shorter custom header more to the top? I have the CSS option?

OK, I removed the custom header. better already. Now I want to eliminate the big space above the slideshow.

For future reference, the space above the slideshow issue was resolved in this other thread.
