is my image secure?

  • Unknown's avatar

Can I stop visitors from downloading/saving my images? Is there any function to disable image downloading from my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

there is but not possible using wp.com blogs. a simple way to discourage downloading of pictures is to put a watermark. that way, no matter if they use it, the proof it’s your is always there. a tip: place the watermark right in the centre – a watermark at the side can be easily cropped.

Can we get a link to your blog, starting with http? We need to make sure you’re in the right forum.

If you can see it, someone can copy it.
If you can hear it, someone can copy it.
If you had a self-hosted blog the same applies.

Streaming videos from the music companies can be copied (if you know where to look for the tools) and they spend lots of money trying to stop copying.
So as sulz says, watermark it in some way. Make the effort of them hiding that greater than the worth of the copying. But even so someone could copy.

But if you are absolutely opposed to anyone anywhere copying it, don’t put it on the net.

If you want to add some basic meaasure of protection, use the Monotone theme. You can only post one image at a time, but it will prevent utter noobs from stealing your pictures. But take note of what Mark says. Do not use the world’s most powerful communication tool to try to restrict the flow of information; that’s not what it was meant for.

I’ve been to sites that don’t let you “save picture as,” maybe that’s what sherry meant. However, you should realise that even if we/anyone installed something that didn’t allow people to save your pictures, they’re still able to print screen it etc. so there’s no foolproof way anywhere on the internet.

They might not let *you* save them, but there are ways of getting anything off the ‘net. I agree with Mark – don’t put it up if you don’t want it copied.

Yes, I’ve been to those sites, too, and I’ve saved pictures from them. It’s not hard. The Monotone theme makes it more challenging by overlaying navigation on top of picture identity, but it, too, is not foolproof.

I am also concerned about this… can someone tell me how to add a watermark?

  • Unknown's avatar

You add a watermark in whatever software you are using for your images. Google watermark.
