Is refund For hosting possible within 30 days?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi. I had recently shifted my hosting from bluehost to WordPress.com personal plan. Unfortunately due to some server and customizing error issues, I am unhappy with that and would like to go back to using bluehost for hosting. I transferred it in the second week of January. Will I get a refund if I cancel this and transfer it back there? Also, I would be grateful if you would highlight the steps on how to transfer back to bluehost?
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

You did not transfer anything to us. Your domain, acraftyhomemaker.com, is only mapped to us, but your domain registration is still with Bluehost. So moving that domain back to Bluehost is as simple as logging into your account with them, and changing the domain’s name servers to point back to them instead of to us. Please contact Bluehost support for help with the exact process.

You can still cancel your plan for a full refund from the Purchases page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/

And if you’ve created any content with us already that you’d like to export to your site at Bluehost, you can do that from My Site ->Settings ->Export. You’ll then import that at WP-Admin ->Tools ->Import on the Bluehost site.

Make sure to only generate the export file after you’ve removed the domain from the site here with us, so your WordPress.com site is just at the free address at that point.

Let us know if you have any questions, and so we can make sure the refund was properly processed once you’ve cancelled your plan.

The media on my posts are not being displayed. Why is that? After importing on WordPress.com site, I found that only some posts had images on them, the rest did not, for example the links below do not.

    https://acraftyhomemaker.com/2018/01/03/day-82-how-to-patch-on-a-pair-of-jeans/

    https://acraftyhomemaker.com/2018/01/03/day-82-how-to-patch-on-a-pair-of-jeans/

And all the posts after these have no images. There is just a blank space. Can you resolve this issue?

Also why is my WordPress admin not opening. Some days it opens and works just fine, and some days it doesn’t open at all.

  • Those images are all linking to the media library on your old self-hosted site. Did you switch the domain over to us before you imported your files? If so, that’s why.

The file you imported to us does not contain any of the media files of your old site, only links to them in the original site’s media library. During the import our importer then follows those links to fetch the images and copy them over to your new site’s media library.

If you switched the domain before you imported here, the importer would not have been able to find those images to fetch them, and it is also not possible for us to fix this after the fact. The only way to fix this is to reconnect your domain to your old site, provided it hasn’t been deleted from your previous host’s servers yet. Then we can try to manually fetch those images.

Also why is my WordPress admin not opening. Some days it opens and works just fine, and some days it doesn’t open at all.

Do you mean https://acraftyhomemaker.wordpress.com/wp-admin/? Please see if clearing your browser cache helps. If your browser still remembers the old site’s WP-Admin location it might be trying to load the site from your previous host’s servers rather than ours.

How can I reconnect my domain to the old site? I am currently using domain from bluehost and mapped into WordPress.com. Also my hosting from bluehost has expired. How do I check if the data is still available?

Will try clearing browser cache and check

I can find all the images in the media of my dashboard but it isn’t being displayed on the posts of the blog

  • How can I reconnect my domain to the old site?

You’ll need to log in at your domain provider and point the name servers back to Bluehost from there.

Also my hosting from bluehost has expired. How do I check if the data is still available?

That would depend on how long Bluehost retains data once an account has expired. You’ll have to contact them to find out if any backups of your site still exists with them.

I can find all the images in the media of my dashboard but it isn’t being displayed on the posts of the blog

If you’re sure the images are all in the media library we can try to just rewrite the links on your site that references them. This might take a while, though, and preferably you shouldn’t make any changes to your existing posts while we’re busy with that – it will still be fine to create new posts on the site. It’s also not guaranteed that it will work, but we have nothing to lose from trying :)

Please confirm if we should try that process.

Yes please, I would be grateful if you could try that.

  • Sure things, @acraftyhomemaker.

Just so we’re on the same page, though, are you doing this to try to transfer back to your old host, or are you keeping the site hosted here?

Updating the links will work for your site if you keep it here on our servers, but it won’t do anything to your other installation, so I wanted to confirm before we proceed.

  • Unknown's avatar

I will keep the site hosted here if I am able to get back my images. As for the slow opening of WordPress, that has been sorted after clearing the cache.

So for now, I will keep the site hosted here.

  • Great, thank you! We’ll make a request to have the images backfilled and will update you here when that’s done.

    Hi there,

We’ve been able to update 108 out of 464 broken image links on your site.

The images associated with the remaining 356 broken links weren’t correctly imported to your site’s Media Library. We’re therefore not able to correct the links.

Would you perhaps be able to contact your old host and ask them if they can make your old site available at a temporary staging URL? If they can then do that, we may be able to grab the remaining images from that URL and import them into your site.

    Let us know!

Yes I have tried everything it still doesn’t help. Now I find that I cannot log into my account itself. It gives me th log in page and when I type in, it doesn’t process. Luckily I had logged in through my cell phone that’s why I am able to connect to you.

Please give me a solution to this problem.

  • Please give me a solution to this problem.

We have fixed the links which can be fixed at this point. The only way to fix the remaining links is by contacting your host as @ siobhyb has mentioned in her reply.

Why does WordPress.com open perfectly fine on some days and on few days it won’t open even the log in page? On some days I can’t access my dashboard at all.

  • That sounds like a connection or a browser issue. Next time you’re unable to load the dashboard/login page, please check if you can do so using a different browser, or incognito/private mode. If that helps, please try clearing the cache in your regular browser.

Else try resetting your modem/router, restarting your computer, or if possible, trying a different internet connection like free wifi at a library. It it works on other connections but not your home connection, then it could be a problem at your ISP as well.
