Is secureserver.net affiliated with wordpress.com?

I just received an odd email, claiming to be from WordPress.com:

    Dear Valued WordPress.com Customer,

We noticed that you need to verify your email address. All you need to do is click the button below (it only takes a few seconds). You won’t be asked to log in to your WordPress.com account – we’re simply verifying ownership of this email address.

Interesting… however, the email header clearly states that the email is from (email visible only to moderators and staff), not WordPress. And given that I’ve never received an email like this before, I’m curious. Is this email legit, or is someone trying to catch me in a phishing scam?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

It sounds like this is indeed a scam of sorts. When you change your email address at WordPress.com, we do indeed send an email to that address asking for confirmation. However, the email should come from an @wordpress.com address. Did you recently try to change your email address?

No. But I did update my whois information.

I also received two emails from a similar address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) slightly earlier.

    Dear Timothy Perry,

Changes to your registrant and/or administrative contact information have been initiated for the domain name(s) listed below:

    NOPRESTIGE.COM

Note: You *do not* need to respond to this email.

If the changes were in error, please call us at 877-273-3049.

    Sincerely,
    WordPress.com

Anyway, thank you. I’ll know to watch out for this now.

Ah – if you attempted to change your domain registration information, you would have received those emails. They’re coming from a different email address because they’re actually coming from the domain registrar. Did it look similar to this?

Funnily enough, yes. So the email is legitimate, but not from WordPress.com, instead from the registrar you deal with.

    Interesting…

Yep! The email is legitimate. I apologize for not realizing sooner!
