Is site redirect the right option for me?
-
Hi!
I recently moved over to WordPress.org but people are still coming here to .com to follow my blog. I just tried to purchase site redirect and this is the message I received: A domain mapping already exists for that host. You do not need to buy a site redirect if you already have a domain mapping.I was using my domain here: emptyspoonful.com, until I moved and it had to come with me, so I changed the domain here to emptyspoonful.wordpress.com.
Bottom line, what I’m looking for is to have all of my current WordPress followers transferred to emptyspoonful.com and to avoid having new followers sign up to follow the wrong site.
Is site redirect the right option for me?
Also, I looked into setting my WordPress.com account to private, but is there a way to add a link redirecting people to my new site without making them think I’m blocking them?
Thank you very much for your help!

One thing you can do without changing or purchasing anything more is to set your Primary Domain back to emptyspoonful.com.
When anyone visits the site using emptyspoonful.wordpress.com, we change the address to emptyspoonful.com anyhow. Since that site is now not on WordPress.com, your visitors will be taken there instead of seeing the WP.com site.
In May, when the bundle and the domain mapping expires, you can assess if you still need the redirect, then purchase the site redirect if needed.
If you have any other questions or need anything else, please let us know!

Great, thanks! Sorry for the delayed response.
One more thing, are you able to transfer my wordpress.com subscribers to my self-hosted blog using Jetpack?
I would truly appreciate it, thank you!

Hi Laura – Sure thing, but I noticed that your Jetpack connection is displaying a temporary address on this end.
You’ll need to make sure that Jetpack is connected to WordPress.com with your actual domain name http://www.emptyspoonful.com/emptyspoonful/ . Otherwise you’ll have problems later with links in your emails to subscribers.
Please follow these steps:
1. Go to the Jetpack page in your site’s dashboard
2. Click the “Connected to WordPress.com” button in order to disconnect
3. Make sure that the domain name http://www.emptyspoonful.com/emptyspoonful/ is displayed in your browser address bar and in the Site URL field under General -> Settings
4. Go back to the Jetpack page in your dashboard and click “Connect to WordPress.com”Please let me know when you’ve updated your Site URL and reconnected Jetpack, and I can transfer your subscribers for you.

Hi Laura – Ok, I moved your subscribers. It can take a bit of time for them to show up in your stats list on your new site, so if you still don’t see them there in 24 hours, please let me know!
