Is stealing common on WP blog sites?
-
So, the other day I had a pingback on my site. I went to the website to discover that my entire blog post had been cut and pasted into their blog. I don’t feel it was referenced properly. It feels like someone “stealing” my post. I left a comment just saying that I would appreciate it if they want to use my stuff that they would reference properly. I tried to revisit the site and it indicates that it is now a private blog site that I cannot visit. I have no way of figuring out if I can do anything more about this, nor prevent it from happening again! I don’t want to make my own blog private. Is there any way to block certain blog sites from visiting my site?
Thanks very much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Content theft is ramapant throughout the interent. On any blog that can be monetized there are those who steal content to make pennies from the advertising income. Please see here > content theft – what to do

Also, be aware of the reblogging phenomenon. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/06/01/we-all-like-to-reblog/
And no, there’s no way of preventing people from visiting a site that’s public online.

Thank you both for your time and the information. I wish that it were a reblog but unfortunately it was not. Thanks again! :)

@krekker
I’m sorry this happened to you. I got so sick of investing time and energy into making DMCA complaints to web hosts to have my stolen content removed that I reduced my RSS feed for post here > Settings > Reading to “Summary”BTW all of the content thieves who hit my blogs were on self-hosted WordPress.org installs or on Blogger ie. .blogspot.com blogs.

@TT & @RC – can a Private site be flagged as Spam? The OP could explain in the spam notice that the blog that is now Private scooped entire sections of their blog – can’t give the target unless they saved the pingback info but the should have the URL of their own content.

A Private one can’t, as far as I know. It can still be reported to Abuse though. I believe password-protected posts allow you to report the blog as a whole.
abuse at wordpress dot com should do the trick.
