Is the content posted on a free stie transferred after buying the domain name?

I have created a blog site using WordPress’s free “starter” service. Now I am thinking about purchasing the domain name. If I do so, will my already existing posts and site design be retained and automatically transfer over to the new URL? Also, the price is $18 for the first year. Is the price subject to change thereafter? By how much typically? If the domain name is not renewed after a year, is it possible to go back to the old free URL — same name plus wordpress.com? Thanks for any help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the domain URLs.

Please read Domains: Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) see here http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

All prices are subject to change. This one has remained constant for years now. The renewal is the same price annually.

If the domain name is not renewed after a year, is it possible to go back to the old free URL — same name plus wordpress.com? Thanks for any help.

Yes but the fact you are ever ansking this question make me poiunt out that if you are not prepared to blog over the long term do not buy a domain mapping upgrade. Failure to renew or choosing to remove a domain mapping upgrade means every domain URL in search engine results and everywhere it appears on the internet will be broken. When clicked every domain URL will not direct to the content under the .wordpress.com com URLs. It will produce a 404 (page not found) error message.

    Editing first sentence above:
Yes but the fact you are ever asking this question makes me point out that if you are not prepared to blog over the long term then do not buy a domain mapping upgrade.

Thank you, Timethief. I am new at this, and your replies are very helpful. — Another question, if you know. I notice that at the bottom of my posts the “Meta” data, tags, categories, search box, etc. all appear twice. I have looked for a way to eliminate one set of these items, but have not found it. Can you help me with this issue too? Thanks again. G.
