Is the fee for premium themes a one time fee or annual?

I am interested in upgrading my free wordpress to Maisha and wondering if the theme cost of $120 is a one time purchase fee or I have to pay that annually.

Hi there,
If you purchase a single Premium Theme, it’s a once-off purchase, and you can use that theme for as long as your site exists. We can also help you transfer it to a different WordPress.com site, but you won’t be able to download and use it on a self-hosted WordPress site – the licence for the theme is only valid for use on WordPress.com.
If you purchase the Premium or Business Plan, you have access to all Premium themes, and can switch themes as often as you want. However, you’ll only be able to use them for as long as you keep renewing the plan.

Thank you for your response, that’s very useful. When I tried to make the purchase, at checkout it automatically said “annual subscription”. How do I make a once-off premium theme purchase as that is what I’m interested in. Is it possible to create a temp site to build it first so I can transfer my old website information over before changing my domain? Also, if I want to change to a different premium theme down the road, do I have the option to purchase another once-off premium theme or purchase a premium/business plan?

That is a bug. If you go to My Site ->Themes and select a specific theme, you’ll only be charged once. It’s just the wording on the checkout page that’s not correct.

Is your existing site also on WordPress.com or self-hosted? Either way you can build your site at the free *.wordpress.com address, import your content, configure your theme, etc., and then only connect the domain once you’re ready, yes. You can even set the WordPress.com site to private while working on it so no one sees it before you’re ready, and so search engines won’t start indexing it yet.

You can buy single premium themes at any time, and you can switch between premium themes you own as often as you want.
