Is the "free" use of WordPress for a limited time period.

Now getting “Son Yazilar” appearing on my home page and access to the posts blocked by the message:

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

Is this because you restrict the “free” use of WordPress to a limited time period? Will paying $13 for a Domain remove this problem? Can it be any domain name? I already have a domain name I was forwarding myself to the .wordpress.com site. Yes I am considering moving host and or changing Domain name but only when original is up for renewal.

If I buy a totally new domain can I register this and remove the problem? Seems to me like you are doing this to make money and its not a problem caused by my present domain host. Fair enough but need clarification to be sure.

    Thanks
    Jonathan

The free use of http://harlowpenguins.wordpress.com/ is indefinite. It sounds like you had a custom domain and it expired, which is why you’re getting this message. Is that not true?

    Thanks “raincoaster.”
Well I wondered. I didn’t think my domain had expired but its possible. I’m still trying to check. There is some issue there but I’m not sure yet if that’s it. The forwarding page I put up is still working so…

And maybe I don’t understand much about blogs but I don’t understand why harlowpenguins.wordpress.com should be using harlowpenguins.com to run the blogging part of the website. Seems odd to me that that doesn’t function independently. I remember taking out harlowpenguins.wordpress.com but don’t remember ever informing WordPress.com about harlowpenguins.com or making any link other than my own simple forwarding page

Logically seems to me that if I wanted the whole wordpress site to look like it is harlowpenguins.com then I would have to pay for them to host my domain, which I had been considering, but that up to that point it would blog as the .wordpress.com identity.

This has miraculously resolved itself. There was some password problem with my domain provider. Finally I got in to check my domain and it hadn’t expired. So I’m wondering whether I was hacked for staying signed in too long… but if so, it was a very benign hack. More likely it is a deliberate time-out period on the free account which prompts me to spend some money, but which some administrator at WordPress has now resolved. Its not that I am averse to switching where I spend my money but I do like to know why things work or don’t.

I really do not know what you are talking about. http://harlowpenguins.wordpress.com/ is not expired. It will never expire. If you have a custom domain, that’s your own lookout.

Hmn. Indeed my own domain should be independent and not have any impact on how the WordPress site works. So we’re back to wondering why there was ever a problem with the wordpress site, but since it has resolved itself I can’t screenshoot it. No idea who “Son Yazilar” is but find it a bit odd that wordpress wouldn’t have seen this error message before. Still, better things to worry about now. Thanks anyway.
