Is The Personal Plan No Longer Available?

While testing themes on a test blog, I’m noticing if I try to customize the Style colors, I’m being required to purchase a Premium plan in order to do so? When I click on plan option, I’m not longer seeing the Personal plan available?

    Why?

Has WordPress now discontinued the Personal Plan?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Update: I just check the WordPress Pricing page, and the pricing table still shows the Personal Plan available for $4 a month. So what is the deal with these Style customizations in themes requiring a purchase of the Premium plan? If I’m trying to run a blog on a free .wordpress.com blog… I’m not paying $96 a year for that Premium Plan just to be able to change the color of the template.

Also I checked on some of my websites that I set up previously on the Blank Theme that have custom Style settings for colors before this change was made, and it appears that (at least for now probably) I can still change those colors if I want to without having to upgrade to the Premium plan.

So as far as I can tell, this new change applies to any new site setup. My opinion is, just like when WordPress tried that Pro plan gimmick and took away all the good plans, I will halt any further domain purchases. Who is going to pay $96 a year just to change some colors LOL?

Another question I have now is this: Some of my websites are still on an old template (Colinear) and they are on the Personal Plan. If I decide at any point going forward to change my template to a block template and wish to make Style customazations, will I then be forced to upgrade to the Premium Plan just to be able to do that? This is an important question as this will factor in to how important it is to maintain some of these projects or let them expire.

    Hi there!

Yep, the Personal plan is still available as you noticed.

Global Styles is similar to CSS, which has always needed a Premium plan to access. To have feature parity, we made Global Styles only available for Premium and above plans.

However, sites created before this change a week ago will not be prompted to upgrade to access Global Styles; only newly created sites will have that limitation. Your sites using Classic themes now shouldn’t be affected if you switch to a new block-based theme.

    I hope that clarifies things!

Hi and thank you! Yes that clarified it for me. All I needed was a basic blog. I understand the company needs to make a profit, but paying that much just for the ability to change colors in a template is not something I wish to do. For the blog I needed, I went to Blogger and Google Domains, purchased a 2 year domain for just $24 ($12/year) with free hosting. I know Blogger is a little dated now and doesn’t have as many features as WordPress with Gutenburg, but it will give me all that I needed for that blog, and I acquired a decent blog for minimal cost. I will keep my current domains I have now on WordPress as they are. I greatly appreciate your help.
