The “like” button requests a WordPress.com login. Is there any way to allow readers to “like” without logging in to WordPress?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The WordPress.com like button, like every other in-house use only like button (example: Facebook) can only be used by those who have registered WordPress.com username accounts when they are logged in to WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/

    Likes are not page views.
They may make us feel warm and fuzzy but they are not page view stats. In fact, likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can “like” and “share” your posts in several locations such as the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat.

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading and choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed or the “full text”.

It would be great if readers from outside wordpress blogs are allowed to use like buttons.

I agree. It just makes sense that an outside reader who enjoyed reading your article would want to press ‘Like’ to let you know.
