  Site speed can really depend on the themes, plugins and images that being used on a WordPress site.

  Bigger image file sizes, slower performances and so forth…

  SSL is also added automatically at WordPress.com, so there’s no need to purchase this outside of WordPress.com.

  China is an amazing country, they have made the Great Wall of the Internet, so I want to make sure that the firewall will not affect the speed of website access. Of course, themes and plug-ins including pictures are technical, but the firewall is caused by political factors.

  China’s “Great Firewall” does not affect speed, it simply may affect overall access to the site, and that is at China’s discretion.
