Is the stats page accurate?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I was just wondering what was going on, I’ve had email notifications of 5 likes and a follow this morning, but the stats page is only showing 2 views. I’m wondering if, when people read the blog in an email rather than directly, it doesn’t “count”. does anybody know please? not that it matters, it’s just strange.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are correct, people have to actually go onto your blog for it to count as a view in your stats. People can like and comment from the Reader and other places, and it will not count as a view unless they click onto your blog. In Dashboard>Settings>Reading change the ‘For each article in a feed show’ to ‘Summary’, to encourage people to click through onto your blog to read the post.

What’s happened, my page isn’t displaying properly?
Since yesterday my page has been displaying very strangely, it looks like a mobile phone display. I don’t think it’s anything I’ve done. Anybody have any ideas please?

For clarity likes and shares numbers are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can “like” and “share” your posts in several locations such as the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. Those who have username accounts only but no blog can become followers and click the “like” and/or “share” buttons. Those who do not have accounts cannot use the like button. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/07/09/wordpress-followers-likes-and-stats/
Note: To compel readers to click into my blog to read the full posts thereby creating a page view stat, I have set my RSS Feed for posts to “summary” on this page > Settings > Reading

What’s happened, my page isn’t displaying properly?

I’m using Firefox 15 and seeing a normal display.

    (1) How are are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com?

I’m asking because the way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.

    (2) Exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
Note: If you are running IE9 in compatibility mode then be aware that it renders as IE7 and IE7 is not supported.

    (3) Have you tried?
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
    using another browser

    (4) Are you logging in using the secure https:// log-in? see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Thanks very much, yes, I’d tried most of that, I’ve fixed it now, I installed Ad Aware yesterday, I uninstalled that and we’re back to normal. Must have been some sort of conflict, it was the same in Chrome and IE. Thanks again!
