is there a better way to not notify subscribers for a specific new post?

I’ve been looking around the internet and saw this as a solution. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-publish-without-notifying-subscribers-2?replies=16
Given that this was 2010, is there a newer way to do this without putting your blog to private?
Just a question, if ever you put it to private, you wouldn’t lose your followers right?
Thank you,
Gabriel
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There’s no way to prevent users from getting notified of new posts, either in the Reader or via email, except setting the blog to private, no. You can publish an individual post as private, which means only blog admins will be able to read it, but I have no idea if email notifications still go out for private posts.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#private-postIf you set a blog to private existing followers won’t be able to access it anymore unless you specifically add them as viewers. They won’t be removed as followers, but as they won’t be able to read or comment and won’t receive any notifications of new posts the overall effect is the same. If you set the blog back to public after publishing the post, as suggested in that thread, you should still have all your followers.
