Is there a definitions document somewhere so that I can ask a question properly?

I’m trying to describe what is occurring but I don’t know what some of the webpages are called in WordPress.com. It’s the place where you edit stats and see your inbox and add posts and pages. What is that called?

Peripherally. Mainly I just have a number of questions and want to refer to the affected objects using the correct terminology, and toggling back and forth trying to read the labels is tricky.

What you’re describing sounds like what most folks tend to call their site “dashboard” though we don’t have an official name for it. Your control panel or site admin area are others. Typically though you can just refer to the page you are on (your stats page or your Blogs page, for example) and we will understand.
If you can share a URL to the page you are on where you are trying to do the thing you are doing, it will always help us to understand, plus we can go check it out directly to check if we are seeing the same thing you do.
