Is there a difference in sharpness between MY resizing vs WordPress doing it?

I’ve read FAQ’s and topics about resizing images before posting them as it relates to speed of loading, etc. but is there a difference in sharpness between my loading an image sized exactly as it will appear on the page vs WordPress doing it automatically?
I plan to conduct an experiment on this topic but in the meantime wondering if you already know the answer.
I am uploading .jpegs which are sized at 1024 on the long side and the size of the image on my blog is 724 x 480.
Would there be a difference in sharpness if I upload an image that is already pre-sized at 724 x 480?Many of my blog images look sharp but not all look as sharp as the 1024 .jpeg on my desktop. Does this have something to do with the WordPress auto resizing?
This issue is EXTREMELY important to me as my blog is the place where I show my photography.

If you want to retaing high image quality then presize your images prior to uplaoding them so they are not cropped.
