Hi there,
This topic gives you some details on the process: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Follow the instructions listed there, and it’ll help you map your existing address to your WordPress.com blog.
In regards to fees, yes – if you’re pointing an existing domain to your site, it’ll cost $13.00 per domain, per year. There’s information on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
Hope that’s helpful :)

Hi again geekinthegirl. As you seem to be familiar with WP, I was wondering if you could give me a little advice. I have now signed up with a webhosting with iPage, but I’m struggling to install a WordPress(.org) theme. I’m now thinking of cancelling the webhosting, and going back to WordPress.com, or is it much the same deal?

Hi again zorbski!
Do you mean you’re trying to install a WordPress.org theme on your WordPress.com blog? If that’s the case, the install won’t work – you’d have to create a site with WordPress.org instead, and go from there.
I’d say not to cancel just yet though :) if you’ve got your heart set on that theme and you make a WordPress.org blog, the folks over at those support forums should be able to help you install it. Just for reference, those forums are here: https://wordpress.org/support/
Once that’s done, you can always transfer your webhosting. Topics like this are handy to read on that subject: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/move-domain-from-wordpresscom-to-wordpressorg
Hope that makes sense? Let me know if that answers your questions.

Hi again, and thanks for your reply.
A couple of years ago I set up a WordPress.com site to try out a blog, but as I’d already started with Blogger, I decided to continue with that. I had a separate website at the time, which has now expired. What I want to do now is set up a new website (the theme isn’t all that important at the moment), and I’m looking for an economical (and not too complicated) way of doing this, so I can manage it myself. Now that I have gone for a hosting package (with iPage), I’m trying to install a theme through the WordPress(.org) dashboard. I have changed the name servers at Freeparking (where my domain is stored) and installed a theme, which it says is ‘active’, but when I try to customise it nothing happens. Sorry about all that, any ideas? -
No problem, and no need to be sorry :) questions are good!
In this case, then, you’re talking about installing a theme on a WordPress.org site. These forums are for discussing issues with WordPress.com.
Asking about your theme issue on the WordPress.org support forums will get you the answers you need, so try posting over here: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/themes-and-templates
They should be able to get you set up in no time :)

Ah, that’s where I’m going wrong then — it’s very confusing to have the .org & com. WordPress sites, with practically the same logo too!
I’m thinking now it’s probably an issue with the domain pointing, which I have re-done at Freeparking, so perhaps tomorrow I will see progress.
Thanks again for your speedy and comprehensive answers. Zorbski :0) -
That sounds like a good plan!
You’re very welcome – good luck with everything, and hope you find the resolutions you need :)
