Is there a limit to how many photos you can upload?
-
I have a beginner wordpress account and as I try to write up a new post, I realize that I cannot upload any photos to my newest post. Is there a limit as to how many images I can upload in relation to how how posts I have all together? Is there an amount of data I can use up as a whole before I run out completely?

WordPress.com provides free blogs and hosts them free of charge. There are no bandwidth charges. All WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. There are upgrade bundles that include space storage upgrades:
Premium bundle details http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/
Business bundle details http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/You can check your space used and still left here http://thesunglasseseffect.wordpress.com//wp-admin/upload.php
I have been here for over 8 years and have only used 163.2 MB out of 3.0 GB upload limit (5%). That’s because I presize and optimize images to fit the space they are destiined to be embedded in prior to uploading them.

Provided you have not exhausted your media storage allocation please answer these questions:
1. Where is that image hosted?
2. What is the file extension? Is it .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .gif ?See the accepted file types here please:

3GB of images & files come free (words are free)
the one image I looked at was 5MB – that is way over web standards and makes your site very slow loading – also as you found out you burn through your 3GB in a hurry – you can buy a 10GB upgrade if you want – used to cost $20.-/yr – but if you have a new account (After Sept 1, 2014 you would need the up-sell $99.-/yr bundle – or you can open a new site and hot link the pictures from the second site into your regular site
you should optimize for the web – sorry don’t have link with me – but I shrink things to 100K to 200K max – you can go back and rework the existing pictures and upload new images and delete the old over sized ones

Good day to you. I linked to my Cropper or Proper Image Preparation? post above and it has helpful links and information in it. -
@TT – saw your links and figured the OP could find some good guidance – I was just typing slow & my part about 5MB is relevant –
I think my main site is at 11% – one photo site is at 75% – but I just did a raw stuff from the camera upload before I learned – bunch of duplicates in it – oh well
Have a nice Thanksgiving & such

Your observations are definitely relevant. There’s such a push to post large images, and so little education as to what optimization is and how to use it effectively. Lots of folks are simply posting oversized images from their cameras without any preparation. Learning how to optimize, have the best image quality, and use the least image storage space are a blogging skill set combination that we all need.Best wishes for a happy holiday.
