Is there a problem, or delay with page view stats?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Are there any issues with page view stats today? Judging from comments left in other forums where I have linked up my latest blog posts, there has been much higher readership than indicated in the stats. At the moment I’m only getting referral stats from LinkedIn, but I’m pretty certain there have been referrals from Twitter and Google+ as well.

Yesterday was also a little odd. But I can’t be as certain as today.

    Cheers

When I visit your Site Stats page, everything appears to be displaying normally. Can you walk me through what you expect to be seeing on your stats page?

I’m only getting referal stats from LinkedIn on my display. I know people have visited the blog from Twitter and Google +, but these aren’t showing up.
Hence, I wonder if they have been included in the overall page views as well.

Would you mind confirming that your blog is set to the correct timezone? You can check this by going to your Dashboard -> Settings -> General and updating the drop-down menu next to “Timezone.”

Sometimes, incorrect timezone settings can cause your site visits to be registered to the wrong date.

If you’re all set already with the timezone, just let me know and we can keep looking :)

Hi. Checked the time zone etc and all is ok.
I checked with some regular readers and they confirm that they accessed the site from links on Twitter and Google plus, but these have not shown up in the referrers.
There are a couple of Twitter refers mentioned today, but my checking suggests quite a lot have not shown up.
Of course, people could be lying and haven’t read the blog but too embarrassed to say so.

  • Some security software and browser extensions filter out referral records. Do your views appear to be increasing normally?

  • Unknown's avatar

No views are actually decreasing. I’ve had days without any referrals from Twitter or Google+ even though I’ve checked with readers and know they have accessed the blog from these sources.

I’m only new to this, and don’t have a huge number of readers, but I’m trying to work out the best strategy for changing that, so am really keen to know where my readers are coming from.

    Thanks for your help

PS i check my stats at home and work, two different OSs and browers and two different security settings. same results.

  • I can’t really see anything wrong with your stats.

When three readers claim to click through Twitter to your blog, do you have at least three views?

  • Unknown's avatar

    that’s the problem

i accessed my blog 8 times this morning from a twitter link and none of them have shown up in the stats

  • Actually, your own views aren’t counted. Do you have any confirmed views from other people?

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s handy to know re own-views.

Yes, I have confirmed Twitter access from Monday and Tuesday this week that has not shown up.

I think there was also a problem end of last week, since the numbers were low or non-existant, but I haven’t asked anyone to confirm. I did however get numerous retweet of my tweet, so have to assume a least a couple accessed the blog.

Thanks for being so persistent with this. We newbie bloggers are probably a little anal about our stats.

  • If you get a chance to get in touch with one of your readers and ask them to visit your blog from Twitter, it would be really handy to know if they’re just completely not being recorded (no referrer and no view) or just the referrer (no referrer, +1 view).

Also, are they visiting from Twitter.com, or an app of some sorts?

  • Unknown's avatar

Three people have accessed blog post from Twitter – one via app, 2 via twitter.com. None have shown up.

Further, one reader tried to use twitter icon on page to post to Twitter, was told to log in to twitter (eventhough she already was)

    Hope this helps

  • That sounds like they may be having some trouble with their browser. Besides the image file, everything with the Twitter share button is controlled on Twitter’s end.

The view from the app won’t come through as a referrer, but the views from Twitter.com should be coming through as referrers. It makes me wonder if maybe they have some security software filtering out their referrer records.

ok, seems odd, I have refers in my stats naming tweet deck etc. if they don’t come through as a refer, do they still show up in the page view stats?

  • if they physically visit your blog through a web browser, they should be counted as a view, which the exception of you and any other logged in users of your blog (listed in the Users section of your Dashboard, if any).
