Is there a theme designed for two parallel columns of text?

I’m hoping somebody might come up with one or more suggestions which will save me from trying out dozens of different themes (this is my first WP blog).

What I’m looking for is a theme, preferably a clean and simple design, which will allow me to have two parallel columns of text of different widths on the front page. To explain further: I’m planning a blog which will include both longer, more serious texts as well as briefer items, such as news, updates, suggestions etc. What I visualise is a wider column on the left, for the longer items, and a narrower column on the right for brief items. Each column should in effect be independent of the other, so that adding to either does not update the other.

Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Hello!
This might give you a start to search:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/choco/
Though, I do not think WordPress.COM allows for categorizing posts either as long or short and then placing them in a specific location where they can be not only be viewed side-by-side but also remain independent.

All posts essentially go in the same spot.

However, you might be able to use a widgetized theme whereas you may be able to use text widgets to place your content in.
