Is there a way I can archive my blog site and retain the same URL?

Hello, I have successfully ran a class blog last academic year, I am now wanting to start afresh for the new academic year, retaining the same URL / WordPress address, but ideally would like to effectively archive last years site if at all possible. Any advice given would be gratefully received. Thanks, Matt

    Hi Matt,

I think your best bet is to create a new blog (year4mt2013.wordpress.com for example) move your site’s current content over there and then start fresh. Here’s the process:

    1) Create a new blog: go to your “my sites” page and click the blue button in the left column. Follow the instructions to create the new site. You will want to choose the same theme as your existing site. I don’t think you need to worry about having all the widgets from your exiting site, but if you want them you’ll have to re-crete them manually.

    2) Copy your content from the existing site. Export the files from the existing site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ then import the files you just exported to the new site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

    3) once the archive site looks the way you want it, you can empty your existing site to get ready for the new year: http://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/

Let me know if I’ve missed anything or you get stuck along the way!
