Is there a way I can use deleted blog names?
-
I’m mostly just curious about this, it’s not like it’s extremely important.
I went to create a new blog about minimalist living.
The names I chose (minimalist, minimal) were already taken, which I found strange since I did a search earlier for minimal tags and found nothing.
So I went to “minimalist.wordpress.com” and “minimal.wordpress.com” to find out that both sites are deleted!
That is such a waste. They are perfectly good wordpress.com blog domain names yet no one is using them, so I’m just wondering if there is anyone I can contact or anything I can do to take over one of those names.
If no one is using it anymore, might as well recycle and make them available again! -
No. You cannot register any deleted blog URL. Deleting any .wordpress.com blog URL is not easily done and what you ask to do is not possible. One has to ignore at least three warnings stating that deletion is permanent and irreversible and then click a verification link in an email to delete a blog. That’s because deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

Thanks, that explains it in detail, thanks for the links. Kind of a shame though but I guess I can understand their reasonings!
