Is there a way to actually contact wordpress?
-
I need either an email address or a phone number for wordpress in Australia. There is an issue with an existing account in that the administrator unfortunately has dementia, and I need wordpress assistance in being able to transfer the account. But I cannot find any contact details. Any help out there please?

Hi there, you’ve reached the support forums for free sites on WordPress.com the hosted platform.
What is the address of the website you need help with so we can point you in the right direction for assistance?
-
The web site address is https://www.flickr.com/groups/austpots/
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. There has been so much work put in over the years for the site to not be able to be updated regularly.
-
That is a flickr photo group and not a WordPress.com website hosted here, so we are unable to help you with it. You’ll want to contact flickr for assistance https://help.flickr.com/
Best wishes.

Thank you Jennifer. That thought did cross my mind today. The site uses WordPress for the technical content. I’m unsure of how they are linked, but I will contact flickr.

Hello again, What is that site’s address?
-
I don’t know the WordPress site address. That is why I needed help. I’ve emailed flickr, and with a bit of luck they may be able to assist.
-
Hello again,
I don’t know the WordPress site address.
Have you looked through the group’s information or the information of whoever started the group?
If it does turn out that the website you are inquiring about is hosted here on WordPress.com, then the only person who can transfer ownership of their site to another person is that site’s owner https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/ WordPress.com has a strict policy in place to protect users from third parties who might try to use our support system to gain access to other users’ accounts.
If you are unable to have ownership transferred from the original owner, my suggestion would be to start a new website. Sites that haven’t been updated for a long time tend to drop out of search engine results. If you create a new website (no matter where you set up) and post there regularly, that will become a new resource.
I’m sorry I don’t have a better reply for you and wish you luck with this.

That’s fundamentally the problem Jennifer. The person who has ‘ownership’ of the site is now suffering from severe dementia, and is unable to provide the information required to transfer to others.
I really appreciate your responses to me – though it seems like we may be in the proverbial ‘rock and a hard place’.
To start a new WordPress page would be an absolute monumental task to re-establish all the information. It took 8 years to get that info up in the first place. To try to do it again would probably take that long plus.
But, I and the two other administrators of the site will not give up trying to find a way around this.
For Australian pottery collectors, the site and information contained within it, is invaluable. To lose it, and to not be able to update it will be devastating.

Hello again,
But, I and the two other administrators of the site will not give up trying to find a way around this.
Again, all this information relates to a site hosted here on WordPress.com, which we have not established without knowing the site address itself.
If you are an Admin on the WordPress.com site, then you should already be able to log into and update the website. You don’t need to be the site owner for that. However, if you are not an Admin on the WordPress.com site, but only on the flickr group, then there’s no connection.
Perhaps if the site owner herself is unable to transfer ownership of the WordPress.com site there is someone else, like a spouse or relative, who can assist.
Again I wish you luck with this.

There is a link on the flikr page to:
https://australianpottersmarks.wordpress.com/
That appears to be owned by the account:
https://wordpress.com/forums/users/australianpottery/
That account also has another site:

That is the current problem. Whilst being an admin of the flickr site, I/we are not admins of the WordPress site. That is what I/we are trying to get a workaround.
If there was someone in WordPress we could contact, we may be able to do that (workaround). It just annoys me that these platforms do not have a way of contacting them directly, to sort issues out. Pretty pathetic in my opinion. Why do they need to hide behind closed doors. They put a product out there, take the money, but aren’t able to be contacted. Except for the fact that I really need them at the moment, I otherwise wouldn’t give the time of day.

That’s rather harsh. However it appears those sites are on a free plan so the good news is that they will stay online indefinitely even if they can no longer be updated. If the owner had a paid custom domain there would be a point when the domain would no longer display if payment wasn’t continued.
Does the owner of the site have any relatives who may have access to their computer or any paperwork that could help in recovering the password to those sites?

Hello again, I understand you’re frustrated, but if the websites that @themagicrobot mentioned are the websites involved, the account access policy is there for a reason: to prevent unauthorized people from taking over someone else’s account and websites.
As we’ve both suggested, if the site owner has a relative who can help you with either site ownership transfer or with recovery of the site owner’s account, that would be the best way to proceed.
Regardless, I’ve also flagged this thread for Staff attention and input.
-
Sorry, but I don’t consider that harsh. These companies need to be contactable. Totally unacceptable IMO.
Re relatives, we are working on that as well.
This is so frustrating. Even with other platforms, there is a way of contacting them. Why is WordPress so ‘secretive’??????
-
Thank you Jennifer, I REALLY appreciate your input here. You have no idea how much I appreciate this.
