Is there a way to attach a pdf to WP welcoming message to new subscibers?

And if not is there a way to add this option myself? Perhaps I could use an autoresponder to send a pdf to people who have confirmed subscription?

Hi there,
There isn’t a way to attach files to the email that goes out to new followers, but you can customize the text in that email. You can do that in the follower settings under Settings > Reading in your blog’s dashboard.
If you’d like, you could upload the PDF to your blog (under Media > Add New in your dashboard). Then, you can copy the link to that PDF and include the link in the email to your new followers. That way, your new followers can follow that link to get the PDF.

thank you. I have thought about similar thing, namely including the link to a page that is not shown in my menu, but the disadvantage is the page would be seen by search engines. I have no idea whether pdf is seen by search engines. What do you think? if not it could be exactly what I needed. :)

If your site visibility is set to allow search engines to view the site (under Settings > Reading in your site’s dashboard), then yes, search engines may see that page and the PDF you have on there.
If you don’t want the general public to see that page, you can password protect it and give out the password to your new subscribers. That way, only visitors with the password can see the page and its contents: Page Visibility

Thank you. I am looking for a way to send a document to new subscribers which would not be accessible by NOT subscribers. Does wordpress.com offer this possibility? And if not, perhaps you could introduce it for premium blogs at least? After all it is an important blog feature.
I have read about problems with password on wordpress.com. Namely, once someone used the password, EVERYBODY using the same search engine gets free entry. So this is not the option I would consider unfortunately.
So I would be grateful for hepling me find another way :)

Another solution would be sending a PDF file manually to the e-mail address of your e-mail followers. What Rachel said in her previous reply is true, if your site visibility is set to allow search engines to view the site (under Settings > Reading in your site’s dashboard), then Search Engines may crawl any file you’ve uploaded on your blog.
Alternatively you could do this:
