Is there a way to cancel/delete a username/account on wordpress.com?
-
I seem to have two usernames on wordpress.com. The username I want to be using is registered to me but no wordpress or website is associated with it. Is there any way to cancel this username/account so that I can change the username that my website is currently under to that name? Right now I can’t as it tells me that username is taken (somehow by me). I don’t know how I managed to create two separate wordpress accounts? Any help would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.

I would recommend transferring the website to the account you want to use:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/You could then “get rid of” the account you no longer want.
User accounts cannot be deleted because WordPress.com doesn’t want somebody else using your name in the future. If you want to permanently get rid of your account, you can take the following steps:
- Empty all the content from your site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/ - Delete your site following this guide:
Note: Deleting a site permanently removes it and this action cannot be undone. You will not be able to reuse the website address again in the future.
http://support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/ - Unsubscribe from any email notifications from WordPress.com:
Visit the your Subscription Settings page and click the box that says, Block all email updates from blogs you’re following on WordPress.com.
https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions - Remove all your information except the account name and email address. You can create an email address that you don’t use for anything to put in here; this will only leave your username.
https://wordpress.com/me/account/
https://wordpress.com/me/profile - You can also change your username if you would like
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/ - Visit the following site and generate a password 15-20 characters long:
http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.htmlUse the password you generated to reset your account password:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password
This will leave your account inactive and prevent you from gaining access in the future.
- Empty all the content from your site:

Thank you so much for this information Geoffrey. It is very helpful.
One last quick question for you if I move my custom domain site to the other wordpress account, do you know if I would lose all my wordpress subscribers?
Thanks again. I really appreciate all your help.

You’re welcome! I’m glad you found it helpful :)
I assume subscribers would transfer as part of the process, but don’t for sure as I haven’t had to do that before. It looks like step 3 of the process is to confirm an email from WordPress.com that you want to transfer the blog, unless you have a custom domain:
If your site includes a custom domain you will not receive an email immediately, but will hear from a WordPress.com Happiness Engineer shortly to complete your transfer.
That may be a good time to verify this. You could also add the modlook tag to this thread and a staff member or moderator should be able to give you a definitive answer on that before you start the process.
More about getting a moderator/staff reply:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-questionI do know you can move subscribers from site to site, so whatever the process your circumstance calls for, you shouldn’t have to worry about losing your subscribers!

No need to apologize, that’s why the forums are here!
You should be able to see “My Blogs” in your WP Admin dashboard; you can access this by adding /wp-admin/ to the end of your website address. For example, it would be something like http://yoursiteaddresshere.com/wp-admin/
Do you see the wpcomhelp and moodlook tags? They should be on the right side of the page unless you are on a mobile device, then they may be at the bottom of the page. The text box below those is where you can add the tags for each thread. I went ahead and added the modlook tag there for you.

Thanks!
Okay. So I managed to figure something out. I went into the actual wordpress site (switched from my website to other sites) which is really just a shell (no posts, etc). And found “My Blogs”. When I clicked on it, it shows my website as a “Linked Blog”. I’m not sure if that makes it easier to move it to the other wordpress site or not.

I also see I’m switching back and forth between my two wordpress sites to respond on this forum. They are both me.
My website is currently under spendmydaysreading, but I would like to move it to whatsbetterthanbooks so that my actual domain name is the same as my wordpress name when I follow and comment on other wordpress sites. Am I the only way confused here :) -
Hi there,
I see in your other account you have a WordPress.com site, https://spendmydaysreading.wordpress.com/, and a self-hosted Jetpack site, http://whatsbetterthanbooks.com/
To move the WordPress.com site to this account, log into the other account and go to this link:
https://spendmydaysreading.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs
Under the site title, click the Transfer Site link and transfer it to this username.
To move the Jetpack site you’ll need to log into the other account and go to My Site ->Settings for that site. On the Settings page should be a link to disconnect it.
Then log back into this account, log into your self-hosted site’s WP-Admin dashboard, and reconnect the Jetpack plugin to this account instead. Then it should also appear on the My Sites page for this account.

Thank you, Kokkieh!
All this information is great.
I just needed to clarify one thing.
When I go to transfer the self-hosted jetpack site to the other account, I do not see the option to reconnect. I only see “You don’t have any WordPress sites yet. Create” as I haven’t actually done anything under this account before.
Do I need to create an “empty site” under this account to be able to reconnect the self-hosted site or if I transfer the “spendmydays..” account that problem would be solved?
Thanks so much. All this help is greatly appreciated.

You need to log into the WP-Admin dashboard for your self-hosted site at this link:
http://whatsbetterthanbooks.com/wp-admin/
Once you’re logged in, click on Jetpack in the menu and connect Jetpack from there.
In other words, you don’t make the Jetpack connection from your WordPress.com account. You make the connection from the dashboards of your self-hosted site.
