is there a way to change a mapped domain to a transferred one
-
I am looking to transfer registrar of a currently mapped domain since I no longer want to use route53.
A transfer says “already mapped” but it is me. Can I really not transfer in a registration if I have it mapped currently? If the solution is to delete the subscription and wait it out, this is kind of bad UX.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So, the short answer is that you would have to remove the mapping upgrade and then transfer the domain to us. Sadly, that will end up with a bit of downtime for your domain while the transfer takes place. You could set up a redirect from your current registrar to your _____.wordpress.com domain while waiting, which would help a little.
I do agree that this is a bit of a inelegant solution and I’ll pass the feedback along to the team.
Not to send you elsewhere, but the most seamless method might be to just transfer away from your current registrar to another that you prefer. I, myself, use Google Domains for any domains I don’t have registered here at WordPress.com.

Hi there,
Please do not remove your domain mapping upgrade. If you do that you will lose your legacy status that allows you to use your own domain without upgrading to a paid plan.
You are not able to start a transfer for your domain because we do not support incoming domain transfers for .ca domains, as explained at https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/#which-tlds-extensions-can-i-transfer-to-wordpress-com
So the only way to continue using your existing .ca domain on WordPress.com, is to leave it registered at your current provider and continue mapping it here.
