Is there a way to change text/words on a theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am totally new to creating a website and I hope it’s ok if I post this here. I chose a theme, but it has some text, that I’d like to delete, but not sure if that is even possible.
    Thank you,
    Sharon

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Any text being provided by the theme canot be just arbitarily deleted; that’s not possible as we cannot edit templates or themes. Exactly where is this text located?

Thanks for responding, the text wasn’t anything bad, just a few things but I finally ended up on a page that let me change, what the website is about, so I did that, and then there was the RSS Feed, as I do not even know what that is and so therefore I didn’t know why it should be on the site, as I surely don’t know what to write in that space if someone clicks on that icon.
I’m muddling my way through & have chosen a theme with less wording on it, so hopefully eventually, I’ll learn how to do everything. I am trying to create a website, not a blog, because I am not a regimented person to the extent that I would be posting something everyday…a website works better for me.

A WordPress blog can either be structured as a page based website or its conventional post based structure can be retained. That’s why understanding the differences between posts and pages, comprehending the SEO implications of creating a page based structure, and know how to use custom menus are key to decision making when selecting a theme, and setting up your WordPress.com blog http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/12/better-blogging-at-wordpress-com-pages-and-posts/

What is the actual login for word press. This morning I put in: https://wordpress.com/ and what it pulled up was Avid new theme, and I never could get past that, to my actual wordpress account…

Don’t login on the main page of WordPress.com. Log in directly to your own blog using the secure log-in link I post below:

Hi, I have a favor to ask, when you get time, would you please review my site, and offer any suggestions and help that I might need.

Also, how do I delete the first Home page, or how would I copy what is on the 2nd home page that I created & put it on the first home page, and then delete the 2nd home page.

Also, I would like to as a little photo to the home page, about me page, and, actually to all 4 pages, how would I do that, one is just a photo of me I have on my desktop, and to the other pages, the photo would be just a small 125 x 125 banner, or photo of that size banner for each program.

Remember, this is just my first site, LOL, and I really have not added all that I want to ad to the Sources page.

Ok, if you can, thank you so much in advance, if you can’t, it’s ok, I understand that time is precious…

Hi, I’m having a problem with my website, when I go to: https://offersrus.wordpress.com/
It shows 5 pages, Home, About Me, Great Opportunity! Home again, and Sources.

The Home page after Great Opportunity has the content that I want on the home page, so what I’d like to do, is be able to put that information on the 1st Home page, but when I go into edit mode, I cannot find the first Home page to put that info on. I can only find the 2nd home page after Great Opportunity, which I’d like to delete the 2nd Home page, because the first page of a website should be the Home page.

I simply cannot find the first home page to copy the put the content that is on the 2nd Home page after Great Opportunity! I don’t it is. I have all the content on a notepad ready to copy onto the first Home page, if I could just find it.

Volunteers in the forum don’t offer website critiques. If you want to hire someone to do that, expect to spend anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Have you gone through http://learn.wordpress.com? If so, the problem you’re running into is that you are confused between static Pages and the blog itself. The blog is not really a Page, so it won’t be in your Pages list. What you want to do is go to Settings->General and select that your blog should open on a static page, and choose the page you want.

Now that I’ve seen the blog, I want to offer a caution. You may not want to put too much work into it, because blogs about how to make money online, affiliate links, and paid ads are all banned here. You may want to move to a paid host and use WordPress.ORG software and then you can do what you want.

Ok, thank you, I’ll delete the website…I surely didn’t know that I couldn’t ask someone to review my site then offer suggestions. I am totally new to Word Press, and certainly didn’t intend to break any rules, & I also did not know that we couldn’t create a website showing our offers/opportunities, so I will delete it right away if I can find out how to do that…

  • Unknown's avatar

I did go to Settings/General before I deleted my website, and there was no option whatsoever to select the site to open on a static page.

  • Unknown's avatar

Don’t necessarily delete it. Set it to Private. You may find it useful to have a private blog for theme tinkering etc.

If the option isn’t under Settings->General it may be under Settings->Reading.
