Is there a way to check if there have been any failed login attempts?

    Hello,

    First time posting here. :)

    So I’m using 2-step authentication where I get sent an SMS with a code each time I log in to my blog. Last night at around 3am, I received 5 such codes (all unique) within about a span of 10 minutes. Though I left my blog open on my laptop, I was already in bed at the time, so it wasn’t me. I got up and checked my blog and nothing’s out of place. I logged out and logged back in, and everything was fine and I received another SMS code, so I knew the 2-step authentication was working fine.

    I just wanted to know if there’s some way for me to check for failed log in attempts on my account, and if by any chance, it shows the IP address of the possible log in attempt?

    Thank you! :)

    Hi there,

    First off, I want to assure you that your 2-step authentication is working and there isn’t any evidence that anyone else has accessed your account. (Kudos for having 2-step authentication enabled — that’s the best way to make sure your account stays secure.)

    However, you may want to change your password, especially if you use the same password for other services or if someone else may be able to guess it. We have a guide for choosing a strong password here: Selecting a Strong Password

    If someone figures out your password and tries to log in to your account, that will trigger the 2-step authentication and you’ll get an SMS code. Without that SMS code, though, no one else can access your account. They’ll get stuck at that step and won’t be able to log in (and you’ll receive the SMS with the code).

    We don’t have a way for you to check failed login attempts or see the IP address of those attempts, but if you have any other questions or concerns please let me know. :)

    Okay, got it. I’ll just change my current password. Just a little freaked out that someone knows my password, though. >_<;;

    Thanks for your help! :)
