Is there a way to display date tag in the featured image of only a certain category?
-
The website I’m developing uses posts to advertise upcoming events and a news feed. For the news feed it would be really nice if the dates the post were created were displayed in the featured image.
I’m currently using a bit of custom CSS to remove dates author etc all together from posts.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks

Howdy Row,
We could make some adjustments to that CSS to hide the date specifically for certain categories of posts so it still displays on the category we want. Could you let me know where the news feed is on your site? I believe you’re referring to the section like this on the theme demo:
Is that correct?

Hiya mate,
Thanks for the response. Basically if it’s a category under the “Sharing The Story” menu at the top, (it has a few subcategories) It would be amazing if the Date it was published was displayed over the featured image. All other posts are events/shop items etc so may miss lead/confuse the audience.
Hope this helps?? (I am still a bit of a wordpress noob).

Howdy Row,
This is definitely possible, but I’m not sure placing the date on top of the featured image is going to work well because of the color. The appears to blend in pretty well. Give this a try for example:
.category-latest-news .entry-meta { display: block; } .category-latest-news .entry-date { position: relative; top: -40px; color: #fff; }If you place that at the bottom of Appearance -> Customize -> CSS and then view the “Latest News” category, you’ll get a sense of what I mean.
What if, instead, we displayed the date normally on a specific set of categories (beneath the title) and hid it on other categories?

LOVE IT!!
As for the text visibility we’ll just keep it in mind when choosing the image for now. It looks really smart. Just about to use same code for other relevant categories.
The only down side is the appearance of the grey boxes around the post title… any ideas?
Many, many thanks

Also love that we can now click the “edit post” short cut that appears only to administrators in the actual website… if this can be kept I would really appreciate it

Hi there,
Jeremey is out over the weekend, but I wanted to just drop you a quick note to let you know that the Edit feature in the drop down menu is indeed planned to stay there. It’s one of my favourite new features too and I would definitely be sad if it went anywhere myself!
Hope you have a great week.
