Is there a way to eliminate avatars?

Is there a way to eliminate avatars or gravatars from my blog? I don’t want authors, contributors, people who add comments, etc., to show with their respective avatars/gravatars. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Settings > discussion toward the bottom, click “don’t show avatars” and then click “save changes.”

I did that and mine still shows in the page, in the authors area. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Go to appearance > widgets and edit the settings in the author’s widget and select “none from the avatar size pulldown.

One more question, if you don’t mind. I started a test post on my blog. The post has a date, but does not show who is the author. Is there a way to have the name of the aouthor show somewhere on top or bottom of the new post?
Thanks!

Here are your options:
(1) Choose a theme that’s coded to display author’s names;
(2) Or if you don’t want to change themes then
->create a Category for each author’s name that can be assigned to their posts;
-> or have each author type in a byline at the top of the posts they write – eg. by Jane Doe.
(3) Us the authors widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/using-widgets/ -
Thank you for your answer.
1. How do I know which themes are coded to display the author’s name on the post.
3. The author’s widget just lets me show the names of the authors on the sidebar, not on the post itself. Is this correct?

authors’ names:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/authors/“The authors widget is a good way to list the authors of your blog with a link to a page listing all of the authors posts.”

Ooops, deleted the line that the authors widget works only in the sidebar, and does not add bylines to individual posts.
