Is there a way to find out exactly when an unused domain will be free to take?
-
The .wordpress domain that I want has been free for like a year and I was wondering how I could know exactly when I’ll be able to take it? The page says
‘katiecakes.wordpress.com is no longer available
The authors have deleted this site’The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Note this username account https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/katiecakes and know that username accounts cannot be deleted.
Go to this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
Sites already deleted by their authors two or more years ago may become available again, if they present no username or other technical conflicts. Do you see a deleted site with an address you would like to have? You can try registering a new site with that address here. If it is available, it will be yours.
If you clicked the link I provided that was in that relevant and up to date support doc at https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/ and were not successful then you cannot register that site. It is not available.
Addresses that match a username on WordPress.com are never recycled. There are also a few other cases, like suspended sites, where the addresses cannot be re-used. So in those cases you won’t be able to register the addresses again even if the sites were deleted over two years ago. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/recycle-url?replies=13#post-2785999

You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

So essentially it can not be taken, since it is just abandoned and not available since the account is still active?
