is there a way to move comments

Is there a way to move comments? I have a slew of comments that I approved. The poster commented on a page that had nothing to do with that topic and I would like to move his comments to the more appropriate page. The comments are on a page, not a post. I obviously approved them so it’s my fault. I don’t want to delete them as it seems rude but I would like to move them to the appropriate page. Is that possible?

There isn’t a way to “move” comments on Wp.com. If you want it, then approve it and keep it there.
If you really want to move it – then post the same comment yourself and then edit the name, site, etc. to the other commenter’s info.

You cannot move comments. In theory, you write a comment yourself where you think it should be by copying the poster’s comments, and then edit the comment by updating the poster’s name, website and time of comment to what it was on the other page, and then delete the comment from where it should not be. Possible yes, but not appropriate.

thanks. I will probably just delete them if it is inappropriate to write them myself. I never mess with people’s comments unless they ask me to make a change for them.

If you simply copy and paste the reader’s comment into a comment box on the appropriate post, you can then login and edit that comment. By editing you can change the username and url to the readers username and url and you have accomplished exactly what you want to do, without “messing” with the original comment contents at all..

I did it though I felt really, really weird doing it. That’s the last time I’ll do that. I felt like an imposter. I closed comments on particular pages so that doesn’t happen again.

I don’t understand your feeling because you did not change any of the reader’s words in the comment he or she submitted, but you’re welcome and best wishes for happy blogging. :)

timethief has a good point, and I have certainly moved comments without guilt.
I don’t know why a reader would make a comment on an inappropriate post—too many browser windows open, not technically savvy, some other reason—but making a correction makes sense to put the comment on the correct post for keeping a thread intact for other readers.

Just my own issue, no big deal. It just seem weird to “ME” to cut and paste a person’s name, email and blog address and have his gravatar show up. The issue is mine. Anyway, I cleared up the problem and closed comments on most pages.
Again, thanks for helping me with this. I was able to keep his comments and move them off the wrong page.

I understand the issue. People may have their own reasons for commenting in certain places and so on, and moving them IS editorially interfering with the context. You may wish to add a comment of yours indicating that comments formerly on that post have been moved and a link to the new location.
