Is there a way to prevent the splitting of words in a word wrap around?
-
On the newly published page, http://rachelbeingchatty.com/2015/01/22/animals-who-think-theyre-people-15/#more-1075 , it splits the name “Barry” into two words. Are there any methods to prevent this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there!
The theme Twenty Fourteen will always use hyphenation when possible. Not all browsers support this, so it only happens depending on the reader’s browser.
You can stop this from happening by editing your current post to this inline style, using the Text Editor:
<div style="-webkit-hyphens: none; -moz-hyphens: none; -ms-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal;"> "Flowers . . . how predictable. You're still sleeping on the couch, Barry." </div>But if you want to prevent it all the time, everywhere on your site, you’d need to add some Custom CSS, which requires the Premium plan:
.page-content { -webkit-hyphens: none; -moz-hyphens: none; -ms-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal; } .nav-links { -webkit-hyphens: none; -moz-hyphens: none; -ms-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal; } .comment-content { -webkit-hyphens: none; -moz-hyphens: none; -ms-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal; } .widget { -webkit-hyphens: none; -moz-hyphens: none; -ms-hyphens: none; hyphens: none; word-wrap: normal; }-Alex G.

I dont see how its feasible. It splits words sometimes dozens of times every post. Its essentially pressing me to upgrade to premium.
I really hope this feature will be become standard. : /

What I mainly dont understand is why it splits words mid-syllable. It should only split poly syllabic words.

Hi there,
Twenty Fourteen includes the “hyphens” property in its CSS code, but most themes do not. That’s why it takes the custom CSS to edit this and it’s not just a setting that can be turned on and off for your site.
You can still use the inline styles for specific posts or pages without needing the Premium plan, or we have several other free themes available.
Each browser that supports hyphenation (right now, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer) handle language settings their own way. It’s those language settings that determine where hyphens are allowed to break words, so each browser will handle it differently. The browser may break even very short words if they happen to be at the end of the line, while another browser may hyphenate less often.
