Is there a way to recover a post that was never saved?

Is there a way to recover a post that was never saved? I had the blog open for a while and wrote a whole post, but the computer restarted and I never hit “save draft.” There is no record of it on my posts page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have a similar problem and it has happened to me twice with the new editor. Well into a new post (~700 wrods), I have deleted a text box pasted in by mistake and the whole blog has disappeared as if it never existed. The removal of an automated backup was a major mistake.

The addition of puerile punctuation (e.g. Yay!) is an added insult.

I think if you used the new Blue Death Editor you are out of luck – something about the Post being in your browser

Don’t use the Blue Death editor – many people have reported problems with it – use the classic editor from your Dashboard – then please remember to save early and ofter (yes some people type faster than I do and the save is a bother)

You can also use an offline editor such as Windows Live Writer.

Typing your Post into a Word Processing program then pasting the text into the blog editor is also an option – but you need to be very careful of the paste or things will get messed up – when I use this method I paste in as plain text (to take out any junk html formatting) then fix the formating

Provided you did not create the post in the new Beep Beep Boop editor where it’s saved only on your browser, and is not auto-saved to the servers for your blog I can help you with this.

If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)

    I recommend:

    1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
    2. Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
    3. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.
    4. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
    5. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.
    6. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

If you cannot locate a revision or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.

Thanks for both replies but I did use the stupid Beep-Beep-Beep editor and the work has vanished in the aether (for the second time).

“Fool me once: shame on them.
Fool me twice: shame on me.”

It wasn’t broke, why the hell did they fix it?

You be welcome – sorry we did not have better news

The Blue Death Editor is a sore spot with many of us – the predecessor to it also lost stuff – it’s a “feature”

I believe the aim is to develop and in house editor to replace the third party classic Tiny MCE editor. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=12

Thanks to both of you for prompt succour—knowing I’m not alone does ease some of the pain.

Oh there’s been lots of feedback for sure. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/beep-beep-boop-screen-is-a-joke-is-this-a-glitch/page/32?replies=33 That said I’m not a person who demonizes others for doing their jobs to the best of their ability. Staff are attempting to create our own editor and there’s nothing wrong with that goal. The new editor doesn’t work well but eventually it will. When that day comes I’ll use it.

Every WordPress.ORG install has the TinyMCE editor bundled into the install. The 3.9 update “trimmed” the number of features down. The plugin for Advanced TinyMCE is this one https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah seems like this one is gone. There was never any initial save to force the logging of revisions. Will just have to rewrite when I feel that motivation again.

I got too used to my Mac OSX, which pretty much saves everything for me at all times in its current state.

    Thanks again!
