Is there a way to set the front page to a category page, displaying posts only from one post catagor

I understand how to do this on a self hosted WordPress site, but cannot see a way to do it on wordpress.com and for simplicities sake would like to keep my site on wordpress.com for now if I can. As far as I can see the only choice is between setting a static front page and showing latest posts but I may have missed something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Maybe you could create a new page and use the Display Posts Shortcode?

Then you could set that as the static front page:

Hi Geoffrey, thanks for taking the time to suggest short codes. The problem I found using them is it no longer styles the list of posts in the way the theme normally displays post category pages. I had a quick look at the html the category page template produce and I think short code is not going to give me the control I need to reproduce that in the static page.
It seems there is no option to just set a category page to the home page, so probably I will have to self host the site and do my own child theme page template to achieve what I want.
Thanks for the help, I had not used short codes before so I learned something new anyway! I was just hoping I had missed a simple option that would have meant I don’t need to move my site form wordpress.com

I hadn’t used that shortcode before so I wasn’t sure if it would work for you or not, but it looked like it was worth a shot. Sorry I couldn’t help you find what you were looking for!
