Is there a way to simply download my own blog posts?

I’d like to recapture them all to my hard drive. Is there a simple way to do this without going in to ‘edit’ each one and copy/paste?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • hi ,
You can export the posts from your blog. The exported file is an XML and can serve as a backup.
    The instructions are here.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

You can use the exported file to import your content (Author name, title, content, tags, categories etc) to another WordPress blog in the future if need it.

Thank you. That’s certainly better than downloading each one in the editor.

Ultimately, I want to get this in word and snail mail to someone. Word doesn’t seem to deal with XML well. Looks like I’ll have to delete the XML tags, reformat in word, etc. Unless someone knows a reliable (free) XML->doc convertor?

Also, you could convert your blog posts to PDF and then convert to DOC.

    Hi!

It might be easier to open a text editor on your machine. This can be Notepad on Windows and TextEditor on Mac. From there:

    1) Open the XML file in Notepad or in your XML editor.

    2) Click on the “Edit” drop-down menu and select “Select all.” This will quickly select all the content in the XML file.

    3) Right-click on the highlighted text and click “Copy.”

    4) Open Microsoft Word and create a new document.

    5) Click the “Home” tab and click the “down arrow” on the Paste button. Choose “Paste Special” from the menu.

    6) Choose the “HTML Format” option. This will paste the XML.

    7) Click “Save.”

Let me know if that works better for you!

Word 2013 appears to have lost the paste-special conversion. Too bad, as I think that would have worked beautifully.

Justjennifer’s solution worked well enough for me. They now have an option to generate .docx. It’s a little rough but will only need a few minutes to clean up. Thanks all!
