Is there a way to transfer my Wix website domain name to my WordPress blog?
-
I want to replace my current artist website (running on Wix) with my WordPress blog, but I don’t want to have to change my domain name. I registered it myself with Wix last year, and now I’m not sure if I am able to cancel my domain there and start it up again here or not. Will the domain name become available instantly for me to re-use if I delete my old (Wix) website? Does anyone know what I should do? Is there an answer staring me in the face?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers. There is a domain mapping upgrade available though that will work for you.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thank you timethief, that was helpful but another issue is that I want everything in the same place- I want to end my domain registration with Wix, and begin paying wordpress for my domain..
So in this case perhaps the best thing I can do is to delete my account and all associations (including domain registration) with Wix and begin a new domain with WordPress.
