Is there a way to utilize the blank space on home page using oxygen theme?

  I am new to wordpress and am using the Oxygen theme for my blog.

  I have set my home page as the showcase page and is currently static – but this leaves the two headings ‘Recent Articles’ and ‘More Articles’ showing beneath my featured image slider. I am not too concerned about that but the enormous amount of blank space in the middle section beneath is annoying.

  Is there not anything I can do with that space, I have tried to bring in new widgets or even add a picture so that space doesn’t look EMPTY but to no avail!

  Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
