Is there a WordPress equivalent of Shopify Partners?

    Hi everyone,

    I build websites for business owners and have done so exclusively on Shopify for a while because they allow you to build the website with all its features for free but not activate it publically without paying for the subscription which is absolutely fair. But I don’t want to build websites on WordPress and need to pay for the business plan out of my own pocket if clients aren’t willing to place a deposit.

    Has WordPress got an equivalent so I can design for free and when the client is happy, transfer to them and they pay for the site so people can view it publically?

    Hey there,

    I see where you’re coming from there. WordPress.com is slightly different to Shopify in terms of web building software – so a plan would be needed in order to build the site, on WordPress.com, to be able to access the features.

    However – there is a way to build the site, for free, and upload the site when the time is right (getting the most out of the plan for the long term.)

    WordPress can be downloaded and installed onto a device locally, using a one click solution, like LocalWP – and then uploading the site to WordPress.com, using a plugin called All in One WP Migrate, which we can talk you through when the time comes.

    This would allow you to upload to a site on any account on WordPress.com, so long as you have access or have been invited as a developer onto the site.

    The process would be (paraphrased)

    • Built the site locally on your device
    • You or the customer purchases the business plan
    • The site is uploaded using All in One WP Migrate

    We can of course help with that upload when the time comes.

    I hope this helps and is food for thought when it comes to working with your clients and using WordPress.com.
