Is there an easy way to find…

… which formats of WordPress forum come with an index page incorporated into it?
I’ve inquired before about how to make an index page, and was told that my format (Cutline) doesn’t come with this feature, I would have to make a page and add each new post to it as they get published
Since I’ve had my blog for a year, I thought it could be nice to change its format, but one of the main points for me when choosing a new format is getting an index with it.
any advice?
thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can certainly use the Archive shortcode to create a chronological listing of all your posts (newest to oldest). http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/
Some themes do have an integral Archives page and Cutline seems to be one of them http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/archives-and-links-templates/ though I am not sure what you’re getting there.

Hi Sally,
Please click this link and see if this static page template called “sitemap” found in the Inuit Types theme is what you want. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/sitemap/This sitemap template automatically displays links to all Pages, the Last 60 Blog Posts & comment count on each), Monthly Archives (all years), Categories (including the total numbers by category). We cannot edit it though.

That is not exactly what I am looking for, I am afraid…
here is the thing, my blog is a cooking blog, so some people are asking me why there is not an index of all recipes – the thing is, to make it interesting from the reader point of view, it would be better to have the recipes sorted by categories, which makes it even more complicated. What I want is not just a chronological listing of my posts, because in a way they can find that in the archives, I want to be able to list my recipes in an index form
clear as mud? Dreaming too high? Better make it myself?
-
Presumably the Category page will do that, but in chronological order. Otherwise, you’ll have to do it by hand, I’m afraid.

So is what you want linked titles to all recipes on a page?
If so in what format if not by date? (alphabetical by title?)
Do you also want the index to automatically update?
If so I don’t know of any template in any of our themes like that. -
@timethief, that is exactly what I want – alphabetical order by title, under different categories…. with automatic update…
In other words, I want it all! :-)
Ok, I guess knowing that no theme allows for that, I’ll concentrate on other features to make my change
THanks

The only theme that can do all that is Bueno. In al other themes you’ll have to do it by hand, as rain said.
You can see my own list here:

Manually updated… -
Hi Sally,
You could look at mine too: category links with pictures—once it is set up (by hand/copy paste) it keeps updating unless you add new categories. Not the pictures but the recipes within the categories.
On second thought, it might not be what you want either…It really would be nice if there was something for listing posts by categories similar to the archives thing-a-ma-bob…

thanks! I went there, but it says the theme is Garland…. am I looking at the right stuff?

Hey Sally,
You can do what I did in any theme. If you want to be a guinea pig, (I am thinking about writing an article about how to do it), let me know… -
I would love to be a guinea pig…. I worked with several lab animals in the past – rabbits, mice, rats, guinea pigs, chickens…. it’s about time I turn into one
-
LOL!
I’m busy this weekend, but I’ll be in touch Sunday evening or Monday. Thanks.I’d do it here in the forums but the one other guinea pig I had, was good practice but my explanation could be better—easier to get it right communicating with only one person at a time…
(It’s not difficult, just tedious)
