Is there an easy way to make sure all links open in a new window or tab?

I a edit articles for an on-line magazine, several at a time and I would like to know if there’s an easier way to make sure that links in these articles all open in a new window or tab, as highlighting each one and ticking the ‘Open link in a new window/tab’ box is very time consuming due to the number of links in each article.
If there’s a way to make sure all links open a new tab or window with a simple a ‘bulk action’ then I’d really like to know how to do it!

Hi. I don’t think there is a built-in feature that automatically defaults all links to “New window”, sorry. But I took the liberty of tagging this thread so that it’s moved to the “Ideas” forum (as a suggestion).

Just something to think about here, but having every link open in a new window seriously irritates some people as they go to a site and end up with a whole bunch of windows or tabs open and it doesn’t give one the opportunity to use the browser back button from one of those new tabs. You have to close the tab/window and then hope you can find the other one that was open that was just previous to that one.
I use this very judiciously and typically only on links going off of my site. I never use it on any internal link because it takes away one of the ways we all use to navigate around, the browser back button.

thesacredpath – That’s a good point. Currently the links are going to external websites. The thing is the website where the on-line magazine is hosted is predominantly aimed at disabled users for the moment so I have to balance speeding up the editing and upload process and keeping it user friendly.
I shall report back to the editors with the points you’ve all made and see where we go from there.
