Is there an error with my number of followers?
-
Hello,
I switched from WordPress.com to WordPress.org a couple of months ago. Everything is fine, the formatting translated fine, but I noticed my number of followers hasn’t changed since I switched over. I usually get one or two new ones a day, so I think this is an error. Do you know what’s going on?
My blog is moreawesomerblog.com.
Thank you!

Hi there – Well, I checked your old blog and 11 more people had followed. I moved those to the new one.
I recommend setting the old one to private here, so there’s no confusion:
https://moreawesomer.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.phpAs far the new one, do you suspect your subscription widget isn’t working, or is the count in your Dashboard off, or is it that you’re not getting as many new subscribers on your new site as you did when you were hosting at WordPress.com?
I subscribed just now with a test email, eliztester – did that come through on your end?

Thank you for moving those! Just set the old one to private. I suspect maybe my subscription widget isn’t working. When you subscribed with the test e-mail it didn’t come through on my end.

Hmm. I was subscribed, and I can see my test email listed at the top here:
http://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=59993334&blog_subscribers&unit=1Do you not see that in the email subscribers list in your blog’s admin? Make sure you’re looking at email subscribers, not wp.com followers. :)

Ohhhhhh. I see it now. Thanks for pointing it out :) So with WordPress.org, people can’t subscribe directly through the “Follow” button at the top. They can only subscribe via e-mail, right?

Correct, there is no follow button at the top of your new site, as that is a part of the WordPress.com admin bar, and your new site isn’t hosted here. :)
