Is there any good way to correct the permalink URL for a post?
-
Hi. I’ve had a couple of situations in which I corrected the title of a post but was stuck with the old title in the URL for the permalink. I have not found a way to correct this (i.e., using the basic WordPress.com material) without rewriting the post entirely, i.e., starting a new post with the corrected title and copying the contents on there from the old post. This is fine when I want people to have a correctly spelled permalink to refer to, but it still leaves the title with the old URL (and whatever embarrassing errors I’ve committed) out there for all to see – especially if I’ve used tags.
Is there any different way to do this? I haven’t been able to find one myself.

Ahhh … it’s the post slug that you need to change if you change the title http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/post-options-post-slug/

If you would like to locate the “post slug” then look past the editor box to the far righthand side. There you will see a list of blue buttons. Find the post slug one and click it to open it. When you change any of your post titles you must also change the post slug. When you open it you will see that a dash -must-be-placed-between-the-words-in-the-post-slug.

Timethief, thanks for answering that. I tried to look this problem up in a search and in the faqs, but with no success. I wish I’d known this a while ago, but I’m glad I know it now!

A big thanks from me too, timethief. I’m new to blogging and had been playing about for ages with the same challenge as chardsinger. Thanks to you, now I know exactly how to do it. :-)))
