Is there any way of improving the awful new edit page?
-
The new edit page is truly awful to use. The page blue type face in a small font is difficult to see on the white background – what’s wrong with black on white? As I type this, I see that the font is grey rather than black, making reading problematical. Furthermore, the lines defining boxes into which data must be entered, e.g., for tags, are so thin as to be invisible. This new site is really a disaster in terms of usability and I don’t understand how presumably trained designers can perpetrate it. Please give us preferences that we can use to improve things.

I don’t use the new editor. I use only the classic editor when I create posts > Dashboard > Posts > Add New and I also use the classic editor when I edit posts and pages.

Thanks for the feedback! Let me address a few specifics:

The Chateau theme you’re using has some custom styling applied to the editor. So, the font will be different within the editor when you’re using that theme than when you’re using another. Here’s an example of the difference:

You’re more than welcome to continue using the Classic Editor! You should see a link in the bottom right-hand corner of the editor that allows you to set the Classic Editor as default. This is a cookie setting so if you reset your browser, you will need to reselect this option.

There are lots of problems with the ‘new improved’ layout, and I don’t use it either. I agree with ebooksinwsweden about the fonts. More important is the layout. In the Editor, I get all the essential information for an edit in one screen, with seven clearly demarcated sections. In the new editor, I get one section and an abbreviated menu. In the Statistics, the way the screen lays itself out leaves far too much blank space, blank lines, and forced extra space; a third of everything is used up by the sidebar. In classic mode, I get a display of five boxes of information; using the new mode, I get one and a half.

This problem is symptomatic of Web sites that seek to “improve” things – I suspect it is down to software engineers playing around with things without much in the way of guidance from users. Given that I’m not the only one unhappy with the “new improved” site, I suggest that it might be wise to go back to the “classic” – and stay there until your users tell you there’s something wrong. Then you put it right. Meanwhile, observe the old engineering maxim: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Thanks to jeremeylduvall for the link to the old editor – however, the system doesn’t remember my preference for this, or for the old statistics page. Every time I access the site, it brings up the “new improved” version and I have to scroll down to get the old version. This isn’t “improved” folks – it’s degrading the editing experience. Leave well alone.

or for the old statistics page
We don’t have a preference in place for this right now. If you would like, you can use the Site Stats link shown here to access the classic stats page:
