Is there any way to reduce the blog element?
-
I know it sounds ridiculous considering it is a blog creation, but is there any way in which I can make it so that my home page is a page? At the moment it doesn’t appear in the page section, and it doesn’t act like a page, for example I have to add a blog post to post to it – which isn’t ideal. Is there any way to change this? I’m aware this may be a ridiculous question on various fronts and for that I apologise.
Cheers,
Fraser. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.
That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Not a problem. Search the Support site at http://en.support.wordpress.com/ for “create a website”.

A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication.
A website is a page based site designed to operate as a one way means of communication ie. a noticeboard.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based. For greater clarity read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
Then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

I have a related question so I am asking it here. I understand everything you explained and have read the instructions you suggested. Maybe I missed something. I am using the “Oxygen” theme. My posts (only three at the moment) appear under “Recent Articles”. When will they appear under “More Articles”? Assuming that I could change the number of posts that can be read, I changed the “setting” for “Blog post show at most:” to show only 2 (10 is default). But all three still appear.
Thank you very much!
My blog is http://www.brucepeight.wordpress. -
@bpeight
SIGH that’s not at all related to the topic in this thread. How the Oxygen theme functions can be found in many threads we Volunteers have posts into again and again and again.Recent Articles – Oxygen
To answer your question, there is currently no option to display more [or less] than three “Recent Articles” on the Showcase Page template. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/oxygen-more-than-3-recent-articles-possible?replies=8#post-927072
In Oxygen, there is no way to show posts in both the slider and the recent articles area. It’s been designed to not to have duplicated posts on the page. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/show-posts-in-both-showcase-and-recent-articles?replies=4#post-909507

Sorry if I upset you by posting in this question. I typically read through forum questions for at least thirty minutes before I give up and seek specific help. I thought I was still in a previous forum question when I asked mine. Sounds like you’re having a long day.

I’m sorry I conveyed that I was annoyed that you did not create a separate thread in the Themes Forum for your Oxygen theme question. You are right. I am tired and I am logging out right this minute.
