Is there any way to "unattach" a file (photo) from a gallery and "re-attach" it?

    Can I unattach an image file from a page or gallery and just leave it in the media library for later attachment somewhere else (a different gallery, say), without deleting and re-uploading the image file to the media library?

  • Unfortunately, there is no way to un-attach images besides deleting them.

    thanks macmanx, that was the conclusion I arrived at. It would be handy.

    Since I posted that question another issue has come up (I’m a total newbie with wordpress, obviously) ;
    I create a new page, name it “gallery”, save it as a draft, go to media library, attach the images I want to the page “gallery”. Those images then show as attached in the ML listing, just as they should.

    Is there another step to get the images to show on that (gallery) page? Just doing that, as per the instructions I found here, the gallery page remains empty.

    It works fine if I upload the images within the gallery page, but how do I get the images to show in the gallery by attaching previously unattached images already in the ML?
    I’m missing something simple no doubt.

  • That should work here, but might actually be an issue with your self-hosted blog.

    http://www.9thousandfeet.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which we really can’t help with.

    To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

    WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.

    If I had to guess, I’d suggest disabling your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that doesn’t work, please contact the WordPress.org Support Forums.
